As this New Year has come upon us, I look back on what I think our city government has done for us and I can not see one positive progressive thing that the city has accomplished. It seems all the mayor can do not is fight with the very people and corporations he should be working with. When our library was fighting for their existence, he was getting the finance director to audit the very corporation that was trying to save it. All this accomplished was a waste of resources since it was found that Community Development was found to be operating within established guidelines.
The truck that was to be collecting our dead and dry brush was broken for over six months, so dry brush was pilling up all over the city creating a potential fire hazard. So, the city barn instead of temporarily hiring people and taking dump truck and going around and picking it up the old fashion way, the brush lay there creating a potential fire hazard in a county that had a burn ban in effect until last month.
I recently have had to use a bicycle to get around town and have noticed that this is a very dangerous city to bike in. down the two main streets in our city, there isn’t enough wide area for car and bike to have the road. I have had vehicles in the main streets of our own town have to wait until the other lane is clear so they can move over enough so they do not hit me while going down the road. There isn’t a decent path or sidewalk on both main streets where a person on a bicycle much less a motorized wheelchair can safely travel down 7th street or Ave. F. There has not been any street repair down in our city in over a year and there are streets that are need of repair.
I firmly believe a bus system should be established so that people that are unable to own a car can use to “Shop Bay City” this would also provide needed jobs to our community and give another thing to tout to prospective investors. I am sure that state and federal money can be appropriated to at least see if it is feasible. These are a few ideas that I think the mayor should look into to help our city grown and prosper. I just hope now the White Stallion can now move forward and bring much needed jobs to our area.
