Annual Chili supper

St. Paul's United Methodist Church located at the corner of 5th and Nichols will be holding their annual Chili “Lupper” on Saturday February 4th from 11 AM to 1 PM. Single “luppers” consisting of Chili, rice and all the trimmings will be available for a $7.00 donation, eat in or take out. Party packs for 12 – 15 people and Quart packs are also available. Retired Teachers Association

Matagorda County Retired Association will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at noon at the First Baptist Church Gymnasium of Bay City. The meal will be catered by K2 restaurant. Knights of Columbus

Free throw championships. All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The Blessing KC’s Council #4307 free throw will be held Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at the Tidehaven High School gym. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. January Celanese Retiree’s Dinner

Seafood Lunch and Dinner Benefit

Sponsored by The Deutschburg Community Club. Dine-in or carry out. Cake auction. Proceeds benefit local Senior Citizens centers, food pantries, volunteer fire departments and various other charitable organizations. Volunteers are still needed. Talent Program

Tidehaven ISD Gifted and Talented Program is accepting applications for students in the district from grades 1 – 12 that fit the following behavior; work consistently above grade level, behave maturely, thrive on complexity, master ideas/skills quickly, and read/comprehend above grade level. Rite of Christian Initiation

Holy Cross Catholic Church would like to invite anyone who is interested in exploring the Catholic faith to attend a series of informal presentations, which will cover the teachings of the Church. The series, known as the RCIA-Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is scheduled for each Wednesday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in Martin Hall. The RCIA series will meet each week and will last through May 23, 2012. Anyone interested in joining the Catholic Church is required to attend these sessions. A new 10-day educational tour through Smithsonian Student Travel is now forming for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade Bay City Jr. High Student for the summer of 2012. The tour includes stops in Boston, New Your City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. There are only 25 spaces available for this tour. Guest Speaker

Abby Johnson will be in Bay City to share her message of conversion, love and the power of prayer. Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Keye Ingram Auditorium 1507 Sycamore Dr. and Monday, Feb. 27 at 7 pm. Sacred Heart Church, Hallettsville. Admission is free.

Sr. Citizens Fair Entry Forms Due Feb. 10

February 10 is the due date for the Sr. Citizens Crafts County Fair entry form. The entry form, release agreement and a $2.00 participant entry fee are due by 3:00 p.m. to the Fair Office at the Fairgrounds. There are 12 categories to enter, and a nursing home section. This event is open to residents of Matagorda County only, for ages 55 and older (exception – nursing home residents may be any age). For copies of the rules and entry form call the Fair Office at 245-2454 or the Extension Office at 245-4100.
